Salento is the classic base for the Eje Cafetero, Colombia's coffee-growing heartland — a hill town of brightly painted balconies, coffee-farm tours and a plaza that fills with jeeps heading out to the trails each morning. Its main draw is right next door: the Cocora Valley, home to the wax palm, Colombia's national tree and, at up to 60 metres, the tallest palm species on earth, rising out of green pasture like something from a fairy tale.

The one stay we have verified here is a one-bedroom chalet in the heart of Salento itself — walking distance from the plaza, the coffee tours and the jeeps to Cocora, rather than out in the valley. It is a simple, compact base rather than an off-grid retreat.

December to February and June to August are the driest months and the easiest for hiking into Cocora; the rest of the year is wetter but greener, and Salento's cloud-forest setting means some rain is normal whenever you go. Our verified selection here is just getting started — one confirmed stay, with more to check as we work through the region.

How we choose what counts as a tiny house

Booking sites don’t have a “tiny house” category — they file these stays under the generic “Accommodation” label. So we check every place by name and type and list only genuine free-standing small homes: tiny houses (on wheels or fixed), cabins, glamping pods, shepherd huts, yurts, domes and tree houses. No hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.

Prices and availability come from our booking partners and can change at any time. Booking links are affiliate links — booking through them supports this site at no extra cost to you. Property type is checked from the listing name and category; if you spot a mistake, let us know.
