Zermatt and the wider Valais region are Switzerland's postcard Alps, ringed by the Matterhorn and a string of 4,000-metre peaks — our verified stays here spread well beyond Zermatt itself, into villages across the canton. Davos, in Graubünden, is best known internationally for its economic forum, but locally it's a serious ski and hiking base in Switzerland's largest canton, with cabins, pods and tiny houses spread through the surrounding valleys.
The Bernese Oberland, in the shadow of the Eiger and Jungfrau, is the classic Swiss mountain postcard — car-free villages, high meadows and glacier views, though genuinely small stays here are harder to find than in the other two regions.
