Every stay we've verified in Honduras is on Roatán, and that's not an oversight — it reflects where the country's small-scale, non-resort accommodation actually clusters. Roatán sits off Honduras's Caribbean coast as the largest of the Bay Islands, strung along the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest reef system on Earth after Australia's. Diving and snorkeling are the reason most people come, and the island's culture reflects that history: Roatán's English-speaking population, descended from English and Cayman Islands settlers alongside Garifuna communities, gives it a noticeably different feel from Spanish-speaking mainland Honduras.

The cabins we've found sit mostly around the West End and Dixon Cove areas, wooden structures a short walk or golf-cart ride from the water, several advertising snorkeling or diving literally off the dock. This is small-scale, low-key accommodation rather than the all-inclusive resorts found elsewhere on the island — closer to guesthouse territory, aimed at divers and travelers who want water access without resort pricing or crowds.

Getting to Roatán means flying directly (there's an international airport at Coxen Hole) or taking a ferry from La Ceiba on the mainland. March to September is the season we've noted as best, generally calmer seas and good visibility for diving before the more unsettled, wetter months later in the year; hurricane season for the wider Caribbean runs June to November, so it's worth checking storm activity if traveling toward the end of that stretch.

This is a narrow slice of Honduras — one island, six stays — and worth knowing as exactly that: a dive-focused island escape, not a sample of the country as a whole.
