The Upper Galilee is Israel's mountainous, forested north, a patchwork of orchards, wineries and Druze and Jewish hill towns that has long been the country's favourite nature getaway. The Golan Heights, on the volcanic plateau further east, adds waterfalls (Banias among the most photographed), nature reserves and its own wineries, with dramatic views toward Mount Hermon.

Both regions share a distinctive local institution: the zimmer, a German-derived word for a self-contained countryside cabin, usually with a hot tub or jacuzzi, that has become Israel's dominant small-getaway format — by far the most common stay type we've verified here.

Our verified stays here also include proper cabins, a few chalets, a caravan and a couple of yurts, alongside the many zimmers. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the most comfortable seasons, avoiding summer heat and winter rain; several stays come with private pools that make midsummer workable too.
