Sapanca and neighbouring Kartepe sit in a green, hilly corner of the Sakarya and Kocaeli provinces, an hour or so from Istanbul — close enough for a weekend trip, which is exactly why the lake has become one of the city's favourite glamping and bungalow destinations. Kartepe adds a modest ski area nearby, giving the region a winter season alongside its lakeside summer trade.
Our verified stays here are overwhelmingly bungalows, with a couple of domes as well — this is currently the only Turkish region in our verified selection, and by far the country's most concentrated cluster, with a large number of confirmed stays around the lake.
April to October is the easy season for the lake itself, warm enough for the outdoor pools and hot tubs many bungalows come with; December to March brings snow to Kartepe's slopes. Our verified selection here is strong around Sapanca specifically — a useful base if you want an easy, lake-and-forest weekend without leaving the Istanbul region, with the rest of Turkey still to check.
