Tiny houses by the sea: 915 verified coastal stays

This collection brings together every stay in the atlas whose destination lies on a sea coast or an island: 915 tiny houses, cabins, pods and huts in 33 countries. As with all our collections, the grouping works at destination level. Some houses stand behind the dunes, others a few kilometres inland in the coastal countryside. The location line on each card names the town and the distance to the destination centre, and the booking page shows the exact position.

The check is the same as everywhere on the site. Based on the listing name and building type, we keep only free-standing small homes you have to yourself and reject anything that sleeps more than six guests or has four or more bedrooms. Beach hotels and apartment blocks are not included. Fjord destinations in Norway and Iceland have their own landscape category on the atlas, and lakes have a separate collection.

Coastal tiny houses fall into two broad groups. Summer houses and cabins in Europe, North America and New Zealand, where the warm months sell out first, and beach bungalows and cabins in Southeast Asia and Central America, where the dry season sets the calendar. The country list below shows where the collection is deepest. Across the 912 stays with a price on file, the median is €116 a night.

Wind and water temperature matter more on the coast than inland. North Sea and Atlantic coasts can be cool even in summer, so check for a stove or heating if you travel outside July and August. In Thailand the islands in the Gulf and those on the Andaman side have different rainy seasons, and the destination pages list the best season for each place.
