Tiny House Atlas

Renting a tiny house in Drenthe: 12 checked stays (2026)

Drenthe has no tiny-house category on the big booking platforms, so we check address by address. Our database holds 27 checked stays across the province, from the Dwingelderveld to the hunebed country near Exloo. These twelve are the pick, ranked by guest rating and confirmed amenities.

Search “tiny house Drenthe” and you land in a province that resists being reduced to one postcard. The Dwingelderveld in the southwest is heathland and a certified Dark Sky area, the Drentsche Aa in the north is a stream valley of old brink villages, and the Hondsrug ridge in the east carries most of the country's hunebeds — Neolithic stone tombs. Our database holds 27 hand-checked addresses across the province, from single pods to chalets for six. For each one we checked hot tub, sauna, fireplace, pet policy and off-grid status against the operator's own site or booking source, not the listing copy.

Prices and ratings on the cards below are live from our database, recalculated on every page view. A handful of the Vrbo addresses have no guest rating yet — we say so rather than hide it. Method: how we verify tiny houses.

The Hondsrug and hunebed country

Further east and southeast runs the Hondsrug, the sand ridge that carries most of Drenthe's hunebeds — the province with more of them than anywhere else in the Netherlands, from Emmen up past Odoorn. The Hunebedcentrum in Borger is where most visits to them start.

9. Chalet op Camping de Zeven Heuveltjes, Ees. Four guests, two bedrooms, 8.7 from 3 reviews. The campsite's own site confirms pets are explicitly welcome.

Getting there, cycling, when to go

Most of the addresses above sit five to fifteen driving minutes from a village centre, and Drenthe without a car is hard work. Arriving by train means Assen, Beilen, Hoogeveen or Emmen, and a bike or taxi from there — regional buses run, but not to every holiday park's front gate. Drenthe markets itself as cycling country, and it earns it: the Hondsrugpad and the loops around the Dwingelderveld and Drentsche Aa are flat and well signposted. September is quieter than the summer holidays, with milder temperatures and fewer people on the cycle paths, while the heather is past its August peak but still holds colour.

Good to know

What does a tiny house in Drenthe cost per night, on median?

Across the 27 checked addresses in Drenthe, the median works out to roughly €180 a night, on prices computed as a two-night snapshot about three weeks out. The spread is wide — from around €95 for a simple pod to over €290 for the largest chalets.

Are dogs allowed at tiny houses in Drenthe?

17 of the 27 checked addresses in Drenthe have confirmed pet-friendly policies, usually for a small surcharge and sometimes only by arrangement with the operator. Check the amenity verdict on each stay before booking.

Is there an off-grid tiny house in Drenthe?

Not according to our checks — none of the 27 Drenthe addresses came back with a confirmed off-grid verdict; most sit on holiday parks connected to the regular grid. Anyone set on true off-grid needs to look outside this province.

When is the best time to book a tiny house in Drenthe?

September works well: the summer crowds have thinned, temperatures stay mild, and the heather on the Dwingelderveld and along the Drentsche Aa is past its August peak but still colourful. It also marks the start of longer, darker evenings in the Dark Sky area for anyone after the stars.

How we choose what counts as a tiny house

Booking sites don’t have a “tiny house” category — they file these stays under the generic “Accommodation” label. So we check every place by name and type and list only genuine free-standing small homes: tiny houses (on wheels or fixed), cabins, glamping pods, shepherd huts, yurts, domes and tree houses. No hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.

The atlas currently lists 2845 hand-checked small stays across 373 destinations in 76 countries — 1716 of them additionally verified through independent research with a documented source.

Prices and availability come from our booking partners and can change at any time. Booking links are affiliate links — booking through them supports this site at no extra cost to you. Property type is checked from the listing name and category; if you spot a mistake, let us know.
