Tiny houses & cabins in Samaipata

Samaipata is an Andean foothill village that has quietly drawn a long-settled international community of artists and small farmers, alongside its main draw: El Fuerte, a UNESCO-listed temple carved directly into a single sandstone outcrop, whose channels and platforms still puzzle archaeologists. The cloud forest of Amboró National Park closes in from the west, and the road up from Santa Cruz de la Sierra climbs through it in switchbacks.

Gardens rather than jungle set the tone for the cabañas here — Cabaña J y M, Cabaña Virginia and Hermosa Cabaña near the town centre are typical wooden cabins for two to six, set in planted grounds rather than dense forest. Samaipata Glamping and its Domo Pajcha add a couple of dome tents to the mix for a lighter-footprint stay. At an average of 80 EUR a night, it sits a notch above the coastal cabañas of Uruguay, reflecting the town's slightly more polished, artsy reputation.
