Mediterranean mountain; green springs, hot summers.
Chefchaouen's blue-washed medina gets the photographs, but the reason to sleep up here is the mountain wall behind it: the Rif rises straight from the town's terraced gardens, laced with spring-fed channels that keep everything green long into summer. Small cabins and tiny guesthouse cottages cling to the hillsides above town, where mornings smell of woodsmoke and goats file past on their way up to pasture.
The walking is superb. Talassemtane National Park starts at the edge of town — fir forests, gorges and the Akchour waterfalls with their turquoise pools an easy day trip away. Evenings you drift back down for tagine on a rooftop as the whole medina turns deeper blue in the dusk. It is Morocco at its gentlest: cool air, mountain water and a pace set by the hills rather than by tour buses.

Spring (March–June) is the sweet spot — the Rif is green and the Akchour pools full; September to November is warm and calm. Summer gets hot at midday but stays pleasant at altitude in the evening, and winters are cool with real rain.
There's no airport or railway — take a CTM bus or drive from Tangier or Tétouan (about two hours) or from Fès (four hours). The mountain roads are scenic and in good condition.
Small stone-and-plaster cottages and cabins on the terraced slopes above town, plus tiny traditional houses inside the medina itself — cool in summer, simple and cheap by European standards, often with roof terraces facing the mountains.
Booking sites don’t have a “tiny house” category — they file these stays under the generic “Accommodation” label. So we check every place by name and type and list only genuine free-standing small homes: tiny houses (on wheels or fixed), cabins, glamping pods, shepherd huts, yurts, domes and tree houses. No hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.
The atlas currently lists 5517 hand-checked small stays across 485 destinations in 79 countries — 3731 of them additionally verified through independent research with a documented source.
Prices and availability come from our booking partners and can change at any time. Booking links are affiliate links — booking through them supports this site at no extra cost to you. Property type is checked from the listing name and category; if you spot a mistake, let us know.
