Tiny House Atlas

Tiny houses & cabins in Jardín

Jardín is a coffee town in the hills southwest of Medellín, its plaza ringed by brightly painted balconies and wax palms. Cabañas on nearby coffee fincas put visitors within walking distance of cloud forest and one of Colombia’s easiest reliable sightings of the Andean cock-of-the-rock.

Getting there

3 hrs by car from Medellín, about 4 hrs by bus.

Climate

Mild coffee belt at 1,750 m; afternoon rain Apr.–May and Oct.–Nov.

Jardín sits about 130 kilometers from Medellín, a four-hour bus ride on winding roads that climb through coffee country before dropping into the valley where the town sits. The plaza is one of the most photographed in Antioquia, its wooden balconies painted in the same saturated colors used across the region's Pueblos Patrimonio.

La Garrucha, a homemade wooden cable car powered by a 220-volt motor, still hauls locals and visitors up the hillside opposite town for about one kilometer, a quirky, low-tech alternative to the newer cable car up to the Cristo Rey viewpoint, which has been out of service since 2017; reaching Cristo Rey today means a steep 1.3-kilometer hike instead.

The bigger draw for many visitors is the Reserva Gallito de Roca, a private viewing platform where the Andean cock-of-the-rock, a startlingly orange bird, displays at dawn between about 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning. Coffee fincas around town run tours explaining the harvest and processing, often paired with a tasting.

Small lodging leans toward cabañas on working coffee farms just outside the urban grid, close enough to walk into town for dinner but quiet enough to hear the birds at first light. Weekends draw crowds from Medellín, so a weekday visit means a much calmer plaza.

Good to know

How do you get to Jardín from Medellín?

Direct buses leave from Medellín's southern terminal and take about four hours on mountain roads; a private car or shared taxi can shave off some time but follows the same winding route.

Is the Cristo Rey cable car in Jardín still running?

No, it has been out of service since 2017 despite restoration plans; visitors reach the Cristo Rey viewpoint on foot instead, a steep hike of about 1.3 kilometers.

Where is the best place to see the Andean cock-of-the-rock near Jardín?

The Reserva Gallito de Roca, a dedicated viewing platform outside town, offers the most reliable sightings, with the birds most active between about 5:30 and 6:30 in the morning.

What is La Garrucha in Jardín?

It's a small, locally built wooden cable car, powered by an electric motor, that carries passengers about one kilometer up the hillside across from town, a low-tech, still-functioning alternative to the defunct Cristo Rey lift.

How we choose what counts as a tiny house

Booking sites don’t have a “tiny house” category — they file these stays under the generic “Accommodation” label. So we check every place by name and type and list only genuine free-standing small homes: tiny houses (on wheels or fixed), cabins, glamping pods, shepherd huts, yurts, domes and tree houses. No hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.

The atlas currently lists 5517 hand-checked small stays across 485 destinations in 79 countries — 3731 of them additionally verified through independent research with a documented source.

Prices and availability come from our booking partners and can change at any time. Booking links are affiliate links — booking through them supports this site at no extra cost to you. Property type is checked from the listing name and category; if you spot a mistake, let us know.
