In Santa Elena · Mountains
Santa Elena is the flower-growing plateau above Medellín, reached by a cable car ride over eucalyptus forest instead of a mountain road. At around 2,500 meters it runs several degrees cooler than the city below, with cabañas and wooden fincas scattered among the silleteros’ flower farms.

December–March
Metrocable from Medellín to Arví in 20–30 min, or 45 min by road.
Cool, misty Andean highland at 2,200–2,600 m.
Medellín sits in a valley at about 1,500 meters; Santa Elena and the connecting Parque Arví occupy the plateau roughly a thousand meters above it, reached in about 20 minutes by Metrocable Line K to Santo Domingo and then Line L, gliding over more than 17,000 hectares of protected forest. It's one of the few places in the world where a capital city's cable car network doubles as a nature-park shuttle.
Santa Elena is best known as the home of the silleteros, the flower growers who carry towering floral arrangements on wooden frames strapped to their backs during Medellín's Feria de las Flores each August. Outside festival season, their farms are open for quieter visits, and the surrounding trails through Parque Arví lead past pre-Columbian roads, orchid nurseries, and lookout points over the Aburrá Valley.
Small lodging here tends to be wooden cabañas and fincas built for weekend escapes from the city heat, many with fireplaces and gardens rather than pools. Nights are genuinely cold by Colombian coastal standards, and mist rolls through most afternoons.
A day trip from Medellín is easy, but staying overnight means catching the plateau at dawn, before the day-trippers arrive on the cable car and while the forest is still quiet.
Cool, misty Andean highland at 2,200–2,600 m.

The easiest route is the Metrocable: take Line A to Acevedo, Line K to Santo Domingo, then Line L directly into Parque Arví and Santa Elena, a ride of about 20 minutes with sweeping views over the city.
The plateau sits roughly 1,000 meters higher than the city center, so temperatures typically run several degrees cooler, and evenings call for a light jacket.
It protects more than 17,000 hectares of Andean forest with hiking trails, orchid nurseries, and remnants of pre-Columbian trade roads, all a short walk from the Metrocable terminal.
Early morning is best for clear views before the afternoon mist rolls in, and early August coincides with the flower harvest ahead of Medellín's Feria de las Flores.
Booking sites don’t have a “tiny house” category — they file these stays under the generic “Accommodation” label. So we check every place by name and type and list only genuine free-standing small homes: tiny houses (on wheels or fixed), cabins, glamping pods, shepherd huts, yurts, domes and tree houses. No hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.
The atlas currently lists 5517 hand-checked small stays across 485 destinations in 79 countries — 3731 of them additionally verified through independent research with a documented source.
