Climate
Temperate coastal; warm summers, mild winters.
La Pedrera sits above low cliffs on the Rocha coast, a smaller and quieter alternative to Punta del Este a couple of hours south — surfers picked it up first, for the reef and point breaks below town, and it has stayed a place people walk to for the view rather than come to for nightlife. In winter, southern right whales pass close enough to the cliffs to watch from the path without a boat.
Most stays here are cabañas rather than hotel rooms, and the nine listed lean boutique for the area: an ecological cabin near La Paloma beach, Cabaña Las Hortensias, and Las Cabañas De Ana are typical wooden or eco-style cabins for two to six, while Lunas Del Bosque pairs a cabaña with a separate suite apartment for those travelling as a group. At an average of 52 EUR a night, La Pedrera runs cheaper than its reputation as the design-conscious end of the Rocha coast might suggest.

Why book through the atlas
Every place is checked by name and type before it goes live — no hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.
These stays we confirmed with an outside source on top, and amenities like hot tubs count only once verified — never guessed.
Your booking completes on Booking.com or Vrbo at their price. The atlas earns a small commission, at no cost to you.
Good to know
How do you get to La Pedrera?
It's about four hours by road from Montevideo along the Rocha coast, the same general drive as Punta del Diablo and Cabo Polonio, so many visitors combine two or three stops.
When can you see whales?
Southern right whales pass close to the cliffs in winter, roughly June to October, which is also the quietest and cheapest time to visit if you don't need beach weather.
What are the cabañas like, and what's the price range?
Expect wooden or eco-style cabañas for two to six guests, several close to La Paloma beach, plus at least one option that pairs a cabin with a separate suite for groups. The average runs around 52 EUR a night.
How we choose what counts as a tiny house
Booking sites don’t have a “tiny house” category — they file these stays under the generic “Accommodation” label. So we check every place by name and type and list only genuine free-standing small homes: tiny houses (on wheels or fixed), cabins, glamping pods, shepherd huts, yurts, domes and tree houses. No hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.
The atlas currently lists 2632 hand-checked small stays across 363 destinations in 75 countries — 1484 of them additionally verified through independent research with a documented source.
Prices and availability come from our booking partners and can change at any time. Booking links are affiliate links — booking through them supports this site at no extra cost to you. Property type is checked from the listing name and category; if you spot a mistake, let us know.
