Tiny House Atlas

Tiny houses in Oberhavel

Oberhavel is the belt of lakes and pine forest directly north of Berlin, where the Havel widens into a chain of lakes between Oranienburg and Zehdenick. Thirty-five kilometres from the city centre, a former farmers’ market at Schmachtenhagen has become a tiny-house resort with pods, igloo cabins and mirror-glass houses set around a natural swimming pond.

Getting there

35 km / about 40 min from Berlin-Mitte; S-Bahn S1 to Oranienburg, then bus or taxi.

Climate

Continental; warm summers, cold winters.

Oberhavel is the district that begins where Berlin’s northern S-Bahn lines end. The Havel leaves the city here and spreads into a string of lakes – Lehnitzsee, Grabowsee, the Wandlitz lakes to the east – with pine forest and sandy heath between them. Oranienburg, the district town, has a baroque palace on the river and is the last stop of the S1 from Berlin. Beyond it the land empties quickly towards Zehdenick and the Schorfheide.

The tiny houses here sit on one site: a former farmers’ market at Schmachtenhagen, a few kilometres east of Oranienburg, that reopened in October 2025 as a resort with around thirty small units, a campsite, a natural swimming pond and a garden restaurant. The units range from 18 m² mirror-glass houses and igloo cabins for two to 35 m² pod lodges for families, some with their own sauna. It works as a weekend escape from Berlin without a car: S-Bahn to Oranienburg, then a short bus or taxi ride.

How we choose what counts as a tiny house

Booking sites don’t have a “tiny house” category — they file these stays under the generic “Accommodation” label. So we check every place by name and type and list only genuine free-standing small homes: tiny houses (on wheels or fixed), cabins, glamping pods, shepherd huts, yurts, domes and tree houses. No hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.

The atlas currently lists 5517 hand-checked small stays across 485 destinations in 79 countries — 3731 of them additionally verified through independent research with a documented source.

Prices and availability come from our booking partners and can change at any time. Booking links are affiliate links — booking through them supports this site at no extra cost to you. Property type is checked from the listing name and category; if you spot a mistake, let us know.
