Zacatlán earned its Pueblo Mágico status in 2011 on the strength of two things: apples and altitude. Orchards ring the town, feeding a small industry of hard cider and apple sweets sold from shopfronts near the main plaza, and the elevation, close to 2,000 meters, keeps temperatures mild to cool year-round, with a damp, misty character typical of the Sierra Norte de Puebla.
The standout attraction is the Barranca de los Jilgueros, a ravine just outside town crossed by a glass-floored bridge suspended 400 meters above the canyon floor, with the Cascada de las Tres Marías dropping through the gorge below. Twenty-five kilometers further out, the Piedras Encimadas Valley scatters wind-carved basalt boulders across a series of small meadows, a strange, quiet landscape good for a slow walk rather than a strenuous hike.
Chignahuapan, a short drive away, is known nationally for its handblown Christmas ornaments and makes an easy add-on to a Zacatlán stay. Small lodging in the area leans toward wooden cabins tucked into pine forest, often with a fireplace built in against the frequent fog and cool nights.
Weekends bring day-trippers from Puebla city, about two hours south, so weekday visits are quieter and the mist over the barranca tends to be thickest in the early morning.

So we check every place by name and type and list only genuine free-standing small homes: tiny houses (on wheels or fixed), cabins, glamping pods, shepherd huts, yurts, domes and tree houses. No hotel rooms, no ordinary apartments.
